Tropical Mountain – Walking Leader Proficiency (TMLP)

Overview

SALT has been replaced by the ‘Tropical Mountain – Walking Leader Proficiency’.

One of the main aims of the Singapore Mountaineering Federation (SMF) is to promote mountain training as an important aspect of the development of mountaineering. In order to achieve this aim, the SMF together with the Outward Bound Singapore have collaborated to develop the Tropical Mountain – Walking Leader Proficiency (TMLP).

Purpose and Nature of the Proficiency

This proficiency is for those who lead groups on walking expeditions in a tropical mountain environment. It is designed to equip the holder with training and other qualifications required for mountain walking terrain and for the type of obstacles encountered in such terrain: eg steep slopes, river crossing and dense vegetation. It is not designed for use in situations that require techniques of mountaineering to make progress, such as rock climbing, using of crampons and any other technical gears.
